There have been electronic scrolling signs on the roadways lately saying: “buckle up, slow down, and enjoy the scenery”. I already do all those things when driving in the Sierra Nevada, but it’s a nice reminder.
Today though, I drove the slowest I ever have in the park and in the snowy and iciest conditions too. I normally manage to avoid driving in inclement weather since I’m a bus-rider. But I have no choice when I’m working up at Big Oak Flat (no public transportation up this direction). Fortunately I’m equipped with snow tires and 4WD, so I never lost purchase on the roads in spite of the conditions.
Talk about cold and beautiful! It’s still snowing lightly here though it’s warming up a bit. I’ll have a few pictures coming soon from my morning drive up and all the snow-laden oaks and sugar pines out my windows here. For now, here’s a picture taken from my back porch this morning. I wish they conveyed the crispy-coldness of the air and the freshly-washed-world smell.
I’m loving that winter is making an appearance! And I’m looking forward to a safe drive home to cuddle up with some tea (or hot chocolate?) and a good book!
